monthly eDispatch!
As we promised in the last Dispatch, we've committed ourselves
to providing important news and helpful information in a more
convenient and timely format. So, to keep you in the loop, we're
sending the eDispatch to your Inbox, rather than your mailbox.

us a line and let us know.

Ascent Design
|
|
In addition to his work at the Michigan
Department of Transportation, Smith runs an independent
architectural firm and heads up the VectorWorks User Group
in Michigan.
|
|
Smith has used VectorWorks since it was
MiniCad, back in the late 1980s. He currently uses VectorWorks
and VectorWorks ARCHITECT primarily as complements to AutoCAD,
at the Michigan Department of Transportation. He creates
quick site studies using the raster image abilities to draw
over a scan of a site map. Once he lays out streets and
rights of way, he drops in buildings and parking in differing
configurations. He uses the layer and class controls to
manage the versions. He then prints to a PDF file in Mac
OS X for immediate distribution, or exports to a DWG file
for others to work on. He also uses ARCHITECT for his independent
projects and competition entries.
|
 |
|
Using VectorWorks, Smith created a drawing
for the Martin Luther King Memorial Competition in Washington,
which had a project site of several acres long. Smith's
drawing was printed full-size on several pieces of 40"
by 90" paper.
|
|
"I modeled sculptures in Poser, referenced
3D entry pylons and section drawings from external documents
and rendered large areas of the site. The 3D aspects of
VectorWorks were invaluable as was the DXF import for moving
the Poser figures into the drawing."

Get the Length of a Line Without Dimensioning It
|
|
You can quickly determine the length and angle
of a line with a simple glance instead of clicking on a separate
tool.
|
|
Just look at the Object Info palette and it will
display the line's length and its angle.
|
|
Refresh the Screen
|
|
Sometimes when drawing or modeling, the screen
requires refreshing from elements that sometimes don't completely
disappear. A simple double-click on the Pan tool, or even a quick
double-tap of the "Z" key will refresh your drawing
screen.
|
|
Pull Records into a Worksheet to Create Reports
|
|
Why not use one worksheet to tie in all your information,
such as door schedules, window schedules, pricing and parts lists?
In a VectorWorks worksheet cell, it's possible to tie in information
from a completely different worksheet. Records can be accessed
by using a formula in the form of ="recordname"."field name".
|
| A
FREE Resource for VectorWorks Users |
|
Vector Depot is an online clearing house for custom
VectorWorks tools, symbols, textures, hatches, and scriptsall
submitted by VectorWorks users. In addition, there is an extensive
gallery of models, as well as a forum for VectorWorks users to
share information.
